Gonzaga's Preceptor Portal: what your preceptor will find there
The Preceptor Portal is the Department of Nursing's public hub for the providers who teach Gonzaga students in clinic. It holds the FNP and PMHNP preceptor guides with course objectives, the evaluation forms, the DNP agency liaison checklist, and Gonzaga's list of what it offers preceptors in return. Share it with a prospective preceptor early, because it answers the questions a careful provider asks before saying yes.

What the portal contains
The portal sits in the Department of Nursing section of gonzaga.edu, within the School of Health Sciences. Its pages are written for preceptors, yet they are just as useful to a student deciding what to ask a provider and what that provider is agreeing to.

The home page lists who may precept, a topic our guide to Gonzaga's preceptor requirements covers track by track. Its call to action sends prospective preceptors to the Director of Clinical Placement, the title Gonzaga names as the contact for becoming a preceptor.
The FNP Preceptor Guide
The FNP guide tells a family practice provider what a Gonzaga semester looks like. It states that "The clinical rotations range from 60 - 240 hours per semester," and it leaves the scheduling of those hours to the preceptor and student before the term starts. The student confirms the schedule about two weeks before each rotation and arrives with a CV or resume, written learning goals and week-by-week objectives.
The guide also defines what counts toward an FNP hour, which our page on what counts as clinical hours sets beside the PMHNP definition. It asks preceptors to notify Gonzaga's Clinical Coordinator if a problem arises, and it explains that the end-of-semester evaluation documents the student's presence in clinic and joins the student's permanent record.
The FNP course objectives page lists what each practicum should achieve. Washington's nursing education rule expects preceptors to be oriented to course objectives in advance, so sending the right course's objectives along with your request is part of a proper start.
The PMHNP Preceptor Guide and packet
The PMHNP guide speaks to a wider group of professionals. Gonzaga's PMHNP course objectives page opens precepting to qualified mental health professionals: psychiatrists, psychologists, advanced practice nurses, licensed therapists and social workers. The guide also carries one limit worth raising with any preceptor up front: PMHNP students may spend no more than 15 percent of their clinical time in observation.
The course objectives page gives hours and populations by course and notes a faculty site visit in each specialty practicum, with none in NURS 683M. The PMHNP Preceptor Packet, last reviewed in November 2023 and linked from the 2026 guide, adds the student's duties, the site request and the three points of contact. Evaluations and the DNP liaison checklist
The Student Evaluations page tells preceptors how the end-of-semester evaluation reaches them. From Spring 2026, evaluations for NURS 601, NURS 661P, NURS 662P, NURS 663P, NURS 661M, NURS 662M, NURS 663M, NURS 701, NURS 702 and NURS 760 run through CORE, and CORE emails the preceptor within two weeks of the practicum's close. The remaining courses keep web forms, including a short FNP form for preceptors who supervised fewer than 20 hours. For the Post-Master's DNP, the portal hosts the DNP Agency Liaison Checklist, which the liaison completes online. The liaison attests to having no family, friendship or reporting tie to the student, accepts a minimum of three contacts from Gonzaga during the term, and commits to an end-of-course evaluation. What Gonzaga offers preceptors
The portal is candid about money: "Currently, Gonzaga is unable to pay preceptors for the important work they do." In its place, Gonzaga lists professional benefits.

- A signed hours certificate that, per the portal, preceptors can apply to board or licensure recertification.
- Use of Gonzaga's DynaMed Plus subscription, a point-of-care clinical reference.
- Recognition through the Preceptor of the Year and Preceptor of the Month awards.
- Continuing education opportunities, marked on the portal as coming soon.
The portal also points preceptors to teaching resources from NONPF, AACN and others, such as the SNAPPS and One-Minute Preceptor teaching models. Where is Gonzaga's Preceptor Portal?
It is on gonzaga.edu in the School of Health Sciences, under the Department of Nursing, at the preceptor-portal page. Can a preceptor use Gonzaga precepting hours for recertification?
Gonzaga gives preceptors a signed certificate verifying their precepting hours, which the portal says can be applied toward board or licensure recertification requirements. Whether a particular certifying body or state board accepts those hours, and how many, is set by that body, so preceptors should check their own recertification rules before counting on it.
How does a provider become a Gonzaga preceptor?
The portal directs prospective preceptors to the Director of Clinical Placement. Gonzaga's own process also starts with students approaching local providers and then submitting a Practicum Site Placement Request that faculty review. Either way, the provider's license, national certification and clinical experience are documented before approval. Are the packets on Gonzaga's Preceptor Portal current?
The PMHNP Preceptor Packet linked from the 2026 PMHNP guide is marked last reviewed in November 2023, and the FNP Clinical Faculty Packet is dated 2023-24. Some details, like Typhon logs and CastleBranch, describe tools Gonzaga has been replacing with CORE. Treat the packets as a guide, and check today's rules against your course syllabus and the graduate handbook Gonzaga gives enrolled students.
Does a physician preceptor use the same FNP guide as a nurse practitioner?
Yes. The FNP guide and course objectives apply to every approved FNP preceptor, whether a nurse practitioner, physician or physician assistant. The difference shows up in planning: Gonzaga asks that at least half of FNP hours be spent with a nurse practitioner, so a physician or PA preceptor typically shares your practicum hours with an NP somewhere in the program.
