What a semester with a Gonzaga student looks like

1. Before the first dayThe student shares a resume or CV plus the learning goals they have written for the term, and confirms the schedule with you about two weeks before the rotation. You and the student agree on the hours before the semester begins.
2. The opening callA short phone or video call with you, the student and Gonzaga clinical faculty to review the student's goals.
3. Weeks in clinicThe student works on your schedule, seeing patients under your supervision and logging each encounter.
4. The site visitMidway through, clinical faculty observe the student with three or four patients, in person for FNP; PMHNP visits may use telehealth.
5. The evaluationAt the end, you complete an evaluation of the student. From Spring 2026, CORE emails the link for many courses within two weeks after the practicum is complete.

Washington's student nurse preceptorship grant

Washington runs a separate, state-level program. The Washington State Student Nurse Preceptorship Grant is a legislature-created program that WABON runs for nurse preceptors of students in Washington nursing programs.

Eligibility follows the license. Licensed LPNs, RNs and ARNPs who meet the state's preceptor rule, have one or more years of experience and are employed at a practice site holding an affiliation agreement with a state-approved Washington nursing program can take part; physicians, DOs and PAs are outside it. A preceptor needs a minimum of 80 hours precepting one student and can count up to two students per term. Out-of-state programs are excluded even for hours in Washington, and because Gonzaga is an approved in-state program, its ARNP preceptors in Washington appear to fit the program's terms.

The mechanism has two sides. On the preceptor's side, registration for a Statewide Vendor Number comes first, then an hours report; on the school's side, the nursing program sends WABON its own verification of hours. Cycles run quarterly; the fall 2026 cycle closes January 12, 2027. Ask Gonzaga's Director of Clinical Placement whether the program files the verification form, and if a public employer such as the VA employs you, check its ethics rules first. How to start precepting a Gonzaga student

Gonzaga's Preceptor Portal points interested clinicians to its Director of Clinical Placement. You can also send us your specialty, where you practice and which terms could fit a student, using the form below. We pair clinicians with Gonzaga students whose course and calendar line up, then handle the student's side of the paperwork: CV, goals, course objectives and the details Gonzaga's site request needs.

Every preceptor and site still goes through Gonzaga faculty approval. Our part is the matching and the preparation, done thoroughly, so your time goes to teaching rather than to chasing documents. When you write, mention the months that suit your clinic, the hours a week you can host a student, and whether you would rather teach FNP or PMHNP students or serve as a DNP agency liaison.
