Delaware and Gonzaga nursing: a doctoral option and a detailed clinical rule

For a Delaware nurse who already holds a nursing master's, Gonzaga's online Post-Master's DNP is worth a conversation. Delaware is one of the states Gonzaga marks "Does not meet" in its licensure determinations for the MSN nurse practitioner program. The Post-Master's DNP, briefly
This doctorate is online and aimed at nurses who already finished a master's in nursing and now work as APRNs or in leadership roles. The practicum is indirect care tied to your DNP project; the program asks for 1,000 practicum hours overall, your MSN supplying part and the DNP adding no fewer than 340. Every practicum course calls for your own proposal and objectives, and an agency liaison who is not a friend, a relative or anyone in your reporting line supports the work.

Delaware's notice-first rule for schools from other states
Delaware puts the paperwork up front for nursing schools headquartered in other states. The board's chapter 1900 regulations spell out a packet, summarized below, and give the board a say over the facility as well.

Online-program faculty who teach or precept in Delaware need a license at or above the student's target level. Because the chapter reaches every nursing education program, graduate ones included, Gonzaga is the one to say how it treats indirect DNP project hours; ask before a Delaware organization goes into your proposal.
Full practice and an early APRN Compact state
AANP lists Delaware as full practice. Delaware has been part of the RN compact since 2018, and it went further in August 2021 by enacting the APRN Compact, which stays dormant until a seventh state signs on; five have so far. A DNP project on APRN mobility or practice authority would have a live Delaware example to study.
Nemours Children's Health, a multistate pediatric network, runs its Delaware hospital in Wilmington. ChristianaCare, Bayhealth and Beebe Healthcare round out the large names, and the Division of Public Health handles population health. Delaware's population centers are the Wilmington share of the Philadelphia metro, the Dover area and the Seaford area. Each decides on hosting for itself.
Before moving west
If an NP credential through Gonzaga is the goal, the order matters: establish residence in one of the ten western states, hold a license there, then apply. Gonzaga tells enrolled students a mid-program move could affect licensure eligibility, and it wants to hear from them before they go. Choosing Idaho, Oregon, Montana or Washington also brings faculty site visits to your own clinical site instead of an added Spokane day.

Can a Delaware nurse apply to Gonzaga's online FNP?
Not while living in Delaware. Admission to Gonzaga's two NP tracks, whether as a first or second master's, requires a home in one of the ten western states, and Delaware's line in Gonzaga's disclosures reads "Does not meet" for the NP master's. A Delaware nurse with a nursing master's can raise the Post-Master's DNP with Gonzaga.
What does Delaware expect before a clinical experience from an out-of-state school?
Delaware wants advance notice and a packet: the school's approval or accreditation, its agency agreements, its faculty and preceptor standards, names and sites, and license copies. Each facility gets board sign-off before students start there. Graduate programs are not carved out, so ask Gonzaga how the rule touches a DNP project.
Does the APRN Compact let a Delaware NP practice in other states now?
Not yet. The APRN Compact needs seven member states before it operates, and Delaware is one of five so far, having signed on in 2021. Until the count reaches seven, APRN authority stays state by state. RN practice across state lines is a separate matter, covered by the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Could my Gonzaga DNP project take place at ChristianaCare?
You can propose it if ChristianaCare agrees to host and your liaison meets Gonzaga's checklist. Delaware's rule may also ask Gonzaga to notify the board and have the facility approved in advance, so settle the order of steps with Gonzaga early. Naming it here implies no tie to Gonzaga.
