Wyoming and Gonzaga's online NP tracks: board notice, facility contracts and small-city sites
Wyoming residents qualify for Gonzaga's online FNP and PMHNP tracks and complete their practicums inside Wyoming. The State Board of Nursing leaves graduate programs unapproved by design and asks instead for a written notice each time a student starts a clinical in the state, backed by a signed contract with the facility; Gonzaga's NC-SARA participation covers the registration route the rule names.

Gonzaga programs a Wyoming nurse can use
Wyoming is one of the ten states from which Gonzaga's MSN nurse practitioner tracks enroll students, and Gonzaga ties practicums to the state that licenses you. For a Wyoming nurse that means clinical hours in Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette, Laramie, Sheridan or a rural clinic closer to home.

Chapter 6: notice, not approval
The Wyoming State Board of Nursing sorts outside programs into two groups. A pre-licensure LPN or RN school seeks the Board's permission, supplying a description, its reasons, proof of home-state approval and licensure papers for faculty and preceptors. Post-licensure programs, a group the Board says includes APRN, DNP and MSN programs, skip approval and follow three steps instead.
- Registration or reciprocityThe program is either registered with Wyoming's education department or cleared through NC-SARA. Gonzaga's disclosures page states that it participates in NC-SARA.
- Written notice per studentWhenever a student will complete a clinical learning experience in Wyoming, the program tells the Board in writing, and the Board offers a model cover letter to use.
- A facility contract firstBefore the clinical begins, school and facility put a written contract in place, and the program holds a copy the Board can see.
Gonzaga already requires an active affiliation agreement before any practicum hour counts, and the affiliation agreements guide explains that step. Because the notice is filed per student, give the Clinical Placement Team your site and dates as early as you can.
Licenses and practice in Wyoming
Wyoming began issuing compact licenses on January 19, 2018, so a Wyoming resident's RN license generally carries privileges into other Nurse Licensure Compact states. The legislature has also written the APRN Compact into statute (Title 33, Chapter 21, Article 3), making Wyoming one of the five states to enact it by 2026. It remains dormant until a seventh state joins. AANP places Wyoming among the full practice states, where nurse practitioners work without a required physician agreement.
The Board's preceptor license language in Chapter 6 is written for pre-licensure programs, so for a Gonzaga practicum the working standard is Gonzaga's own: an active, unencumbered license for the state where you are precepted, a year in the clinical area and national board certification on file. FNP students do at least half their hours with an NP, which the NP hours rule explains.
Cheyenne, Casper and the rest of the state
Wyoming has only two metro areas, Cheyenne with 102,938 people in 2025 and Casper with 80,526, plus micropolitan Gillette at 48,145. HRSA lists 43 primary care shortage designations statewide, 24 of them geographic or population designations, and 26 for mental health; Laramie County has 4 and 3, Natrona County 3 of each. These are examples of Wyoming settings and their published rules.
- Cheyenne Regional Medical Center: a Cooperative Education Agreement between the school and the hospital comes first, applications run through myClinicalExchange, and the hospital says a request may take up to 45 days.
- Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper: Banner's system-wide student pages, as indexed, describe onboarding in myClinicalExchange and schools and students securing their own preceptors.
- Other sizable hospitals include Sheridan Memorial Hospital, Campbell County Health in Gillette and, in Laramie, Ivinson Memorial Hospital, which is affiliated with UCHealth; their NP student routes were outside this review.
- Much of Wyoming's primary care happens in small-town clinics, where one nurse practitioner may be the whole practice, so a search here reaches past the hospitals.
Next door to the visit region, but still a Spokane trip
Wyoming borders Idaho and Montana, two of the four states where Gonzaga's clinical faculty visit students at their own sites, yet Wyoming itself sits in the other group. A Wyoming FNP student arranges one extra on-campus day in Spokane beside an immersion in each practicum course, and the faculty visit happens there. Over the program that adds up to six immersion trips for FNP students and five for PMHNP students; the PMHNP packet also allows a site visit by telehealth, so ask your course faculty which applies. Questions Gonzaga students ask
Does Gonzaga need Wyoming Board of Nursing approval for my practicum?
Not approval. Under the Board's Chapter 6 rules, post-licensure programs such as APRN, MSN and DNP programs are outside the approval process. The program still writes to the Board for each student clinical in Wyoming, keeps a signed facility contract on file, and must hold either Department of Education registration or NC-SARA approval.
Who files the Wyoming clinical notice, me or Gonzaga?
The rule puts the notice on the program, and the Board offers a model letter for it. Ask the Clinical Placement Team how Gonzaga handles it, and hand over your preceptor, site and dates early so the notice and the facility contract are both in place before your first hour.
Can I precept across the border in Montana or Idaho?
Gonzaga admits by residence and places practicums in the state where you are licensed to practice. A Wyoming multistate license carries privileges into Montana and Idaho, but crossing the border changes the placement, and your faculty site visit arrangements may change with it. Ask the Clinical Placement Team before approaching a preceptor on the other side of the line.
Do I need a separate Wyoming RN license for my practicum?
A Wyoming resident usually holds a Wyoming-issued multistate RN license already, which covers practice in Wyoming. If you moved from another compact state recently, your home state changes with you, so check with the Wyoming Board about switching the license and tell Gonzaga, whose disclosures page warns that relocating can affect licensure eligibility.
Is the Post-Master's DNP available to Wyoming nurses?
Gonzaga's DNP pages list no residency restriction, the immersions are virtual, and the practicum hours are indirect project hours with an agency liaison. Wyoming's notice rule names DNP programs, so ask Gonzaga how it applies to a DNP project in Wyoming, and see the DNP guide.
