What we do for Gonzaga students

Our work is the search, the matching and the paperwork. We look for preceptors and clinical sites in the state where you are licensed, match them to your Gonzaga practicum course, and prepare the credentials, license, board certification, site contact and schedule that your Practicum Site Placement Request asks for.

We also stay with you. When a preceptor changes jobs or a site pulls back mid-term, your placement advisor starts on a replacement right away, with the same attention to Gonzaga's rules as the first search.

Gonzaga's faculty review and approve every preceptor and site, and the Clinical Placement Team finalizes the placement and the affiliation agreement. We make sure what reaches them is complete and fits Gonzaga's requirements the first time. How it works walks through each step.

Why we focus on one university

Every nursing program runs clinicals its own way, and Gonzaga's way has specifics that change a search. NP students must live in one of ten western states and precept where they are licensed. FNP students need at least half their hours with a nurse practitioner. PMHNP students can spend no more than 15% of practicum time observing. Hours count only after faculty approval, an active agreement and CPNW compliance.

How we work

A few habits run through every search we run and every request we prepare.

Gonzaga's own sources first. Our guidance draws on Gonzaga's catalog, graduate FAQs, preceptor packets and portal, and on state boards of nursing.
Conflicts shown as conflicts. Where Gonzaga's sources disagree, such as 660 versus 600 NP clinical hours, we show both and name the source that settles it for you.
Your state, in person. We search for in-person placements in your licensed state, fitted to your course and your travel radius.
One advisor. Your placement advisor knows your program and plan from the first message to the last practicum.
Current rules. We track changes such as Gonzaga's move to CORE, Washington's ARNP to APRN title change in 2027 and WABON's review of its nursing education rules.

Who we serve

Our core work is Gonzaga's online MSN FNP and PMHNP tracks and the Second MSN, where the search for local preceptors starts with the student. We also support Post-Master's DNP students looking for a practice setting and an agency liaison, current Post-Baccalaureate DNP and Nursing Leadership students finishing their practicums, and BSN students planning the final practicum.

Geographically, that means the ten western states Gonzaga admits NP students from: Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming, with Washington at the center. Inside Washington, a search in Spokane looks different from one in Seattle, the Tri-Cities or Vancouver, and we plan for each. Post-Master's DNP students, whose program pages show no residency restriction, may live farther afield. Our state guides cover each state, starting with Washington.

Working with preceptors

Precepting is teaching, and the clinicians who take on Gonzaga students deserve a clear, well-prepared request. When we approach a preceptor, we bring the course objectives, the hour range, the dates and the student's goals, so the decision is easy to make and easy to plan around.

Gonzaga offers its own recognition to preceptors, from adjunct faculty opportunities to a signed hours certificate and DynaMed Plus access. Clinicians interested in teaching a Gonzaga student can start at our preceptor page, and we match them with students whose course and schedule fit. We also respect the limits that protect preceptors: Washington's rule caps a preceptor at two students at one time, and no Gonzaga preceptor can be the student's direct supervisor or a family member.

Which Gonzaga programs do you help with?

The MSN FNP and PMHNP tracks, the Second MSN, the Post-Master's DNP, and current Post-Baccalaureate DNP and Nursing Leadership students. Gonzaga arranges BSN and Accelerated BSN clinicals in Spokane, so for those students our help centers on planning the final practicum with an RN preceptor.

Do you search outside Washington?

Yes. We search across all ten western states Gonzaga admits NP students from, always in the state where you hold your license. Idaho, Oregon and Montana share Washington's arrangement of faculty site visits at the clinical site, and the other six states pair the visit with a day in Spokane.

How do you keep up with changes at Gonzaga?

We read Gonzaga's catalog, FAQs, preceptor portal and packets alongside state board rules, and we update our guidance when they change. Recent examples include Gonzaga's move from Typhon and CastleBranch to CORE, and WABON opening its nursing education rules for review in December 2025.

Who will I be working with?

Your placement advisor, from your first message through each practicum. The advisor runs your search, keeps track of your course sequence and remaining hours, and coordinates any replacement, so you are not explaining your situation to someone new each term.
