Gonzaga nursing for Floridians: a doctorate from home, NP tracks out west
Florida nurses cannot enter Gonzaga's MSN FNP or PMHNP tracks from home, because those tracks take residents of ten western states. The online Post-Master's DNP carries no residency limit on its pages, and its project hours can be planned around where you already live and work. Gonzaga has the final word on eligibility, so check with the program before applying.

Gonzaga's disclosure table gives Florida a "Meets" for the NP master's, the common result outside its short "Does not meet" list. The determination concerns licensure requirements; the ten-state list is what governs enrollment.
Doing Gonzaga's DNP while living in Florida
Florida nurses already holding a nursing master's, whether they practice as APRNs or run units and departments, are who the Post-Master's DNP is for. Classes are online and so are both immersions. The practicum serves your DNP project: indirect care in a setting you propose, guided by an agency liaison, with your MSN hours folding into the 1,000 needed.

Florida's board and out-of-state programs
The Florida Board of Nursing approves programs under section 464.019 of the Florida Statutes, a law aimed at institutions that want to run prelicensure nursing education in Florida. No Florida provision surfaced, in the research behind this page, that puts a graduate or APRN program from another state through board approval or a notice step before its students begin, so the board side is lighter here than in Alabama or Delaware. Gonzaga still decides what it needs before a project starts.
RN compact membership in Florida dates from January 2018; APRN Compact legislation has not passed there. On AANP's scale Florida is restricted: some Florida NPs never outgrow the physician protocol requirement, though exemptions can apply.
Settings across Florida's large metros
Four Florida metro areas passed 1.7 million people in the 2025 census estimates. Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach tops the list, with Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater second, Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford third and Jacksonville fourth. For a quality, safety or population health project, AdventHealth, whose headquarters are in Florida, is one candidate; so are UF Health, BayCare, HCA Florida Healthcare's hospitals and, in South Florida, Baptist Health. The Florida Department of Health is the public health option. Listing them claims no Gonzaga tie; each makes its own hosting call.
Florida's TEACH program sends money to eligible safety-net facilities, among them federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics and community mental health centers, for hours spent teaching APRN and nursing students, subject to legislative funding. Only students of accredited Florida-based programs count, so a Gonzaga placement is outside it.
Moving west first
A Florida nurse set on Gonzaga's FNP or PMHNP has to relocate into one of the ten states before applying. Which of the ten you choose shapes the travel. the FNP track brings six immersions in Spokane and the PMHNP track five, and outside the Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana group, faculty site visits also happen in Spokane rather than at your clinic. Is Gonzaga's online FNP available in Florida?
Not to Florida residents. Residence in one of Gonzaga's ten western states is an entry condition for FNP and PMHNP applicants, first-time and Second MSN alike. From Florida, ask Gonzaga about the Post-Master's DNP instead, provided you already hold a nursing master's.
Will Florida's board have to sign off before my Gonzaga project starts?
Florida's approval statute is written for institutions offering prelicensure education inside Florida. The research for this page found no Florida rule putting graduate programs from other states through approval or notice before placing students. Gonzaga confirms any steps of its own, so raise it when you propose a Florida setting.
Could hosting me bring a Florida clinic TEACH money?
It would not. TEACH pays facilities only for learners in accredited programs headquartered in Florida, and even then only when the legislature funds it. A clinic weighing your Gonzaga project would decide on other grounds, such as how the project fits its own quality goals.
How much travel does Gonzaga's DNP involve from Florida?
Very little. Gonzaga's DNP FAQ answers the campus-visit question with a plain no, and the newest catalog runs the immersions online. One older catalog page still places immersions on campus with NURS 705 and NURS 760, so read the curriculum for your own start term. Even the final project defense may happen over video.
