Studying with Gonzaga while living in Massachusetts
Gonzaga's licensure disclosures give Massachusetts a split verdict: the nurse practitioner MSN "Meets" the state's requirements, yet Massachusetts is listed among the states Gonzaga is currently unable to accept MSN students from. If you already hold a master's in nursing, the online Post-Master's DNP is the Gonzaga program worth raising with admissions, and Gonzaga confirms eligibility before you apply.

Two lines on one disclosure page
Massachusetts residents meet two separate barriers to the MSN. Gonzaga admits FNP and PMHNP students, Second MSN students included, only from its ten western states, and its disclosure page adds a Massachusetts-specific note about MSN students. The Post-Master's DNP is the exception worth checking, since its pages state no residency rule and its practicum is project work rather than patient care.

Board of Registration in Nursing and the compact timeline
Massachusetts licenses nurses through the Board of Registration in Nursing. The Nurse Licensure Compact became law here in late 2024, yet the Board says it has no effect until implementation finishes. Its target is May 2027, conditional FBI approval for the required background checks came through in May 2026, and NCSBN's table still lists the date as TBD. For now, a multistate license issued elsewhere does not let a nurse practice in Massachusetts.
AANP files Massachusetts under full practice. A new nurse practitioner gets there after two years of practice supervised by a qualifying APRN or physician, and exemptions for equivalent experience may be available.
Does 244 CMR 6.03 reach a doctoral project?
Under 244 CMR 6.03(2), a school headquartered outside the state submits Part A, covering the parent institution, once a year and six months or more ahead of any placement. Part B then covers each individual placement, filed at least 30 days out, and no student starts until the Board's letter of approval arrives. Changes are due two weeks before a start, the Board hears of them within seven days, and each preceptor supervises at most two students.
Those criteria are written for schools whose graduates sit the NCLEX licensing exams, and the Board's page says nothing about graduate or APRN study. Because a Gonzaga DNP practicum counts indirect project hours, whether Part A and Part B apply is a question for Gonzaga to answer before you settle on a Massachusetts organization.
Boston, Worcester and Springfield as project settings
A DNP project begins with a practice gap, and Massachusetts has large systems where quality, informatics and population health questions come up daily: Baystate Health, UMass Memorial Health, Boston Medical Center, Beth Israel Lahey Health and Mass General Brigham. Greater Boston holds some 4.6 million people on the Massachusetts side, Worcester's metro about 889,000 and Springfield's about 464,000, and the Department of Public Health is a statewide option.
Treat these as possibilities, not sites with a Gonzaga agreement. You may base the project in your own organization if it sits outside your unit, happens off the clock and your liaison is not your supervisor; the agency liaison page covers what that person commits to.
When relocation comes before the application
Moving to Washington, Oregon, California or another of the ten opens the FNP and PMHNP tracks, because Gonzaga admits by where you live. Clinicals then follow your license, so the new state's board is your first stop, and the RN license guide compares all ten. A second move after enrolling could affect licensure eligibility, and Gonzaga asks students to talk with their program before going.

Not while living in Massachusetts. Both tracks admit only residents of the ten western states Gonzaga names, and the disclosure page separately says Gonzaga is currently unable to accept MSN students from Massachusetts. Relocating to one of those ten before you apply is what opens the NP tracks.
Is Gonzaga's Post-Master's DNP available to Massachusetts nurses?
Its web pages show no residency restriction and its immersions are online, so nothing there rules Massachusetts out. The Massachusetts line on the disclosure page refers to MSN students, which leaves the doctorate's status open to interpretation. Ask Gonzaga's Graduate Admissions to confirm eligibility for a Massachusetts address before you apply.
When will a Massachusetts nursing license become multistate?
The Board is working toward Nurse Licensure Compact implementation in May 2027, and NCSBN lists the date as to be determined. Until implementation is complete, the Board says to use the current Massachusetts application process, and nurses holding multistate licenses from other compact states still need a Massachusetts license to practice here.
What does Gonzaga ask of a DNP agency liaison in Massachusetts?
On Gonzaga's checklist the liaison confirms they are not related to you, not your friend and not in a direct reporting relationship with you, agrees to be contacted at least three times in the semester, receives orientation material and course objectives by email, and completes an end-of-course evaluation. Faculty then approve the setting through your proposal.
