From Connecticut to Gonzaga: the online DNP and the western NP tracks
Gonzaga's MSN FNP and PMHNP tracks admit only from ten western states, so a Connecticut address keeps them out of reach for now. What you can check from Hartford, New Haven or Stamford is the online Post-Master's DNP, an indirect-care doctorate whose project you carry out, alongside an agency liaison, at an organization of your choosing. Ask Gonzaga to confirm eligibility for Connecticut first.

Connecticut's entry in Gonzaga's licensure table reads "Meets" for the NP master's, as do most states outside its "Does not meet" and "unable to accept" groups. At Gonzaga, meeting a state's licensure requirements and admitting its residents are two separate questions; the ten-state rule covers the admission side.
A doctorate built on project hours
The Post-Master's DNP fits a Connecticut nurse who already holds a nursing master's and works in an APRN role or in nursing leadership. Its practicum hours feed your DNP project as indirect care, and the hours from your MSN are banked toward the program's 1,000-hour total. According to the DNP FAQ, no campus visits are required, and the immersions run online.
In NURS 700 you pinpoint a community practice gap and begin establishing a practicum site; NURS 701 through NURS 703 each call for an individualized proposal and objectives. Connecticut's board, and the compact it joined in 2025
Connecticut nursing licenses fall under the Board of Examiners for Nursing, part of the Department of Public Health. Compact participation is recent: since October 1, 2025, an RN whose home state belongs to the NLC can work in Connecticut on that multistate license instead of a Connecticut one. Connecticut has not enacted the APRN Compact.
Under Connecticut's education regulations, a program from another state is treated as approved if the board in its own state has approved it and its standards match or exceed Connecticut's, with no separate application described. Those rules concern programs preparing graduates for licensure and leave post-licensure and APRN programs unaddressed. They also set ratios, such as one preceptor to two students, and expect advanced-level preceptors in RN programs to hold a nursing bachelor's with two years in the role. Gonzaga can tell you which of these, if any, it applies to a DNP project.
Where a Connecticut DNP project might sit
In AANP's classification Connecticut is full practice, reached after an NP completes three or more years and 2,000 hours collaborating with a physician, a transition that could anchor a workforce or practice-model project. Yale New Haven Health and Hartford HealthCare are two large systems, alongside UConn Health and Trinity Health Of New England; in western Connecticut, New York-based Northwell Health took over former Nuvance hospitals, Danbury Hospital among them. The Department of Public Health is a population health option.
By population the Hartford metro leads, then Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury, with the New Haven and Waterbury-Shelton areas after them. Whichever organization you approach decides for itself whether to host you, and Gonzaga reviews the proposal.
Relocating to the West
A Connecticut nurse who settles in one of the ten states can apply to the FNP or PMHNP track as a resident there, subject to Gonzaga's other admission requirements. Sort out the license in your new state early: your practicums run where you are licensed, and your preceptors need an unencumbered license in that same state. Questions Gonzaga students ask
Can I take Gonzaga's online PMHNP program from Connecticut?
Not as a Connecticut resident. Gonzaga's PMHNP and FNP tracks draw only on ten western states, and the catalog words it as a residency condition. Connecticut does show "Meets" in Gonzaga's licensure table for the NP program, but that determination is about licensure requirements rather than admission.
Does Connecticut's new compact membership change anything for Gonzaga applicants?
It changes how RNs are licensed in Connecticut, not Gonzaga's admission map. Since October 1, 2025, an RN can practice in Connecticut on a multistate license from an NLC home state. Gonzaga's NP tracks still ask where you reside, so a compact license on its own does not open them.
Do Connecticut preceptor rules apply to a DNP agency liaison?
Connecticut's preceptor ratio and qualification rules sit in regulations aimed at programs leading to a first license, and they do not speak to post-licensure or APRN programs. Gonzaga's own DNP Agency Liaison Checklist sets the liaison's conditions, such as having no direct reporting relationship with you and no family or friendship tie.
Can my DNP project run at Yale New Haven Health?
You can propose it if the organization is willing. A large academic system can offer the quality or population health questions a DNP project takes on, but hosting is the organization's decision, the liaison has to clear Gonzaga's checklist, and the plan goes to Gonzaga for review.
