Colorado nurses and Gonzaga: right next door to the ten-state map
Colorado borders Utah and Wyoming and meets Arizona at the Four Corners, all three on the list Gonzaga's MSN nurse practitioner tracks admit from, yet Colorado itself is not on it. While you live here, the Post-Master's DNP, delivered online, is Gonzaga's option to weigh, with project hours you can often complete near home. Gonzaga confirms eligibility, so ask first.

On Gonzaga's disclosures page, Colorado carries a "Meets" beside the NP master's. That is a finding about licensure requirements, separate from admission, and it becomes useful later: a nurse who moves west, completes an NP track and then comes back to Colorado has Gonzaga's determination on record. Colorado's board still makes its own licensing decisions.
Gonzaga's DNP from Denver, the Springs or the Front Range
Front Range nurses who hold a nursing master's and practice at an advanced level, or lead, are the Post-Master's DNP's intended audience. Beyond the RN license, admission asks for APRN licensure and certification if your role carries them, plus a 3.3 GPA from the master's. The hours you logged for your MSN are credited toward the 1,000-hour mark.
Your practicum is the project itself, counted as indirect care. You pitch the organization and your objectives; the liaison you recruit signs Gonzaga's checklist, agrees to at least three contacts per semester and evaluates your work when the course ends. Colorado's board and graduate programs based elsewhere
Colorado's State Board of Nursing works within DORA's Division of Professions and Occupations. Its education rule, Rule 1.2, is about basic programs that prepare someone for a first nursing license, and it sets no step for an out-of-state graduate program placing students in Colorado. This guide relied on the rule text alone, because the board's site did not load during research, so let Gonzaga confirm the position.
The student permit Colorado offers is not a general placement tool either. It covers nontraditional programs based outside Colorado, those without faculty-supervised clinical teaching, for people who still need Colorado hours before licensure. Colorado RNs have had compact multistate licenses since January 2018, while the APRN Compact has not passed here.
Full practice with a mentorship condition
AANP calls Colorado a full practice state, with one wrinkle a workforce-minded DNP project could examine: a new NP prescriber first attests to 750 hours of mentored experience, the mentor being a physician or an APRN. Colorado's rural and frontier preceptor tax credit rewards unpaid teaching in shortage areas, but HB22-1005 tied eligibility to students at accredited Colorado schools, so Gonzaga students look to be outside it.
Denver Health and UCHealth are two large names for a project; HCA HealthONE and CommonSpirit Health also run Colorado hospitals, and Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver belongs to Utah-based Intermountain Health. CDPHE, the state's public health department, suits population health work. Metro Denver, at about 3.1 million residents, dwarfs Colorado Springs at roughly 782,000, with Greeley and Fort Collins-Loveland after that. Hosting is always the organization's own decision.
A short move to the ten
For many Colorado nurses, Gonzaga's admission map begins a short drive away. Living in Utah, Wyoming or Arizona puts you inside the residency rule for the NP tracks, with practicums wherever you are licensed inside the ten. Those three sit outside Gonzaga's in-person site-visit region, so the faculty visit happens in Spokane, on a campus day attached to an immersion, once per practicum course. Questions Gonzaga students ask
I live in Denver. Can I apply to Gonzaga's online FNP?
Not with a Colorado residence. Gonzaga keeps both NP tracks, first and second master's alike, for residents of its ten listed states, and Colorado falls just outside. The "Meets" Colorado earns in Gonzaga's disclosures speaks to licensure, not to enrollment.
Does Colorado's board have to approve Gonzaga before my DNP practicum?
Colorado's approval rule targets basic programs for new RNs and LPNs and has no provision for graduate programs from other states placing students. The board's site was not reviewed for this guide, so check with Gonzaga before your project begins in Colorado.
Would a Colorado preceptor tax credit apply to my Gonzaga liaison?
It appears not. HB22-1005 limited the credit to preceptors teaching students of accredited Colorado institutions. A liaison supporting a project for Gonzaga, which is based in Spokane, would sit outside that group whatever the setting.
If I move to Wyoming, where would my Gonzaga FNP site visits happen?
In Spokane. Only the Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana group gets faculty at the clinical site; a Wyoming student tacks a campus day onto an immersion in every practicum course so faculty can complete the visit. An FNP student already makes six immersion trips to Spokane over the program.
