Gonzaga NP students in Nevada: the board's rules and the systems in Las Vegas and Reno
A Nevada resident can enter Gonzaga's online FNP or PMHNP track and complete the practicums in Nevada. Two board positions shape that path: hands-on patient care in Nevada, by a student or anyone else, calls for a Nevada license, and under NAC 632.703 an online program needs the board's sign-off before it offers clinical teaching in the state. Gonzaga is absent from the board's current list, so settle the approval question with Gonzaga early.

What is open to you from Nevada
Nevada is among the ten western states Gonzaga accepts nurse practitioner students from, and Gonzaga sets each practicum in the state where the student is licensed. For a Nevadan, that means Clark County, Washoe County, Carson City or a rural community in between.

NAC 632.703 and the board's list
Under NAC 632.703, a nursing school running any part of its program inside Nevada files a report on the board's form, supplies its accreditation or approval, shows that it follows chapter 632 of Nevada's statutes and code, and sends annual reports. Online and other nontraditional programs face a firmer condition: the board must approve them before they give any clinical teaching in Nevada, and their faculty who teach in the state need Nevada licenses.
Nothing in the rule separates graduate programs from pre-licensure ones. The Nevada State Board of Nursing's program list, dated September 1, 2026, shows which schools from other states may run just the clinical part of their programs in Nevada. Gonzaga does not appear, and every school in that clinical-only group trains pre-licensure ADN or BSN students, which leaves open whether the board reads the rule as reaching graduate NP programs.

A Nevada license for Nevada patients
Nevada has joined neither the Nurse Licensure Compact nor the APRN Compact. NSBN has ruled, in a practice decision, that nursing care for a patient physically in Nevada requires a Nevada Board of Nursing license, and education involving hands-on patient contact falls within that ruling. A multistate RN license from Arizona, Utah or Idaho therefore buys no clinical time in Nevada; plan on a Nevada RN license, which the license guide compares with the other nine states.
AANP counts Nevada as a full practice state. One wrinkle matters when you weigh a preceptor's practice: newer Nevada NPs, those with less than two years or fewer than 2,000 hours in clinical practice, prescribe Schedule II drugs only under a protocol approved by a physician.
How NSBN expects a precepted clinical to run
A 2005 NSBN practice decision on precepted clinicals reads like a checklist for the school. Several of its points already match Gonzaga's model.
- Faculty direct every clinical experience a student has; the preceptor supports that direction rather than replacing it.
- A preceptor has no more than two students at once and stays physically present with them.
- Faculty stay reachable by phone throughout.
- The program orients its preceptors and gives them written objectives.
Gonzaga's structure answers most of this through the three points of contact, in which clinical faculty meet jointly with you and your preceptor three times a course, and through the course objectives and preceptor guides on its Preceptor Portal. Washington's rule behind those contacts also limits each preceptor to a pair of students at once.
Las Vegas, Reno and the systems in between
Nevada's two large metros hold most of its providers. Southern Nevada's metro, Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas, counted 2,407,226 residents in 2025, and greater Reno 578,734. HRSA counts 66 primary care and 54 mental health shortage designations statewide, 16 and 15 of them touching Clark County and 7 and 6 in Washoe. These systems are examples of possible settings, with what their public pages say.
- Intermountain Health in Southern Nevada, with sites in Las Vegas, Henderson, Pahrump, Boulder City and Mesquite: its student page, as indexed, limits current Nevada placements to contracted schools and has the school's placement coordinator email about primary care clinics, with availability tied to preceptor schedules, student numbers and clinic space.
- Renown Health in Reno: an Office of Academic Affairs serves learners, NP and PA students among them, who finish required coursework and hold any license the rotation needs, according to the indexed page.
- The Valley Health System describes its hospitals as clinical rotation sites for nursing students; its NP route is unpublished.
- Sunrise Health System, UMC of Southern Nevada, Dignity Health's hospitals in Henderson and Las Vegas, and Saint Mary's in Reno publish no NP student process on the pages reviewed.
Spokane immersion trips from Nevada
Nevada falls outside the four states where Gonzaga's clinical faculty visit students at their sites. FNP students in Nevada therefore add an on-campus day in Spokane alongside an immersion in each practicum course, and the site visit happens there instead of at your clinic. Across the track that means six immersion trips for FNP students and five for PMHNP students, whose packet also allows a telehealth visit. Questions Gonzaga students ask
Can I use my Arizona or Utah multistate license for Gonzaga clinicals in Nevada?
Not for Nevada. The state sits outside the compact, and the board's practice decision ties patient care in Nevada, including care given as a student, to a Nevada license. If you live in Nevada on another state's license, apply for Nevada licensure before your first practicum course so the placement request can go forward.
Is Gonzaga approved to run NP clinicals in Nevada?
Gonzaga is missing from NSBN's clinical-only list dated September 1, 2026, yet every school on that list is a pre-licensure program, and whether NAC 632.703 reaches graduate NP programs is unclear. Ask the Clinical Placement Team how Gonzaga handles Nevada before you ask a preceptor to commit.
Can my preceptor take another student while precepting me?
Nevada's practice decision lets one preceptor take two students at once at most, on site. Gonzaga's Washington-based rule sets the same two-student ceiling. Separately, Gonzaga limits you to two approved preceptors per semester, so if you need two, plan that pair before the term starts.
Which Las Vegas systems publish a route for NP students?
Intermountain Health's Southern Nevada page, as indexed, takes students from contracted schools only, with the school's coordinator making contact. UMC, Sunrise and Dignity Health publish no NP process for their Las Vegas hospitals, which makes independent practices and clinics an important part of a Las Vegas search.
Can I study Gonzaga's Post-Master's DNP from Nevada?
The DNP pages show no residency restriction, the program has no required campus visits, and practicum hours are indirect project hours with an agency liaison.
