Gonzaga's nursing programs, for nurses in Nebraska
Nebraska is a "Meets" state on Gonzaga's licensure disclosures, yet the nurse practitioner tracks still admit only people living in Gonzaga's ten western states, Wyoming next door among them. A Nebraska nurse with a master's can look at the online Post-Master's DNP, and because Nebraska's board leaves post-licensure programs to the schools, the state side of a project stays simple.

A board that regulates pre-licensure programs only
Nebraska's Board of Nursing works through the licensure unit of DHHS's Division of Public Health. Its approval role covers pre-licensure education for Nebraska residents: a school whose graduates sit the NCLEX and that teaches students in Nebraska is told to get in touch, and approval may follow. The Board leaves post-licensure education alone, whatever the delivery format, so a graduate or APRN clinical has nothing to clear with it.
On faculty, DHHS applies NCSBN's view that practice takes place wherever the student sits. Faculty therefore hold a license in the student's state, and anyone teaching APRN students in Nebraska holds a Nebraska APRN license. Schools arrange preceptors with facilities directly, and for post-licensure study the school sets preceptor qualifications. For Gonzaga's DNP, that standard is the agency liaison checklist.
Compact membership and a changing APRN board
Nebraska's compact membership dates to January 19, 2018, and in AANP's terms it is a full practice state once an NP has 2,000 supervised hours behind them. Something changed in 2026: DHHS board rosters up to June listed an APRN board of its own, but the rosters dated July 15 and September 15 drop it and seat APRN, CNS and CNM members on the Board of Nursing for terms beginning July 1. That looks like a merger, though no statute text confirms it.
Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island
The state's largest systems include CHI Health and Nebraska Medicine, along with Bryan Health, Children's Nebraska and Methodist Health System, and DHHS itself offers public health settings. About 887,000 Nebraskans live in the Omaha metro, 352,000 around Lincoln and 78,000 around Grand Island. Any of them might suit a quality or population health project, and Gonzaga's faculty approve the setting you put forward.
Wyoming is next door
If an NP track is your aim, the nearest admission state is Wyoming, a compact member like Nebraska. Living there puts you inside Gonzaga's admission map; Wyoming students add a Spokane day at an immersion for each practicum's site visit, and Wyoming asks programs to notify its board in writing for each student clinical. Can I join Gonzaga's FNP program from Omaha?
Not while living in Nebraska. Gonzaga's FNP and PMHNP tracks enroll residents of the ten western states only. Nebraska's "Meets" rating on the disclosure page means the program meets educational requirements for licensure there, which is a separate matter from admission. Moving to a state such as Wyoming or Montana before applying is the way into an NP track.
Does the Nebraska Board need to approve a Gonzaga DNP project?
Not by DHHS's account. The Board regulates pre-licensure education only, so graduate clinicals from any school, online or not, carry no Board step. Preceptor standards for post-licensure study belong to the school, which for Gonzaga means its liaison checklist, and Gonzaga's faculty still approve every setting you propose.
Will I travel to Spokane during Gonzaga's DNP?
The DNP FAQ says there are no required campus visits, and the 2026-27 catalog describes two virtual immersions in NURS 700, one an orientation and one on project and practicum planning. An older catalog page still mentions on-campus immersions, so confirm the current format with Gonzaga. Project defenses can happen in person or by video.
Can I use my Nebraska multistate license in Wyoming?
Yes, while Nebraska remains your primary state of residence, since a multistate license covers practice in the other compact states and Wyoming is one of them. Gonzaga's NP tracks, though, admit by where you live, so working in Wyoming from a Nebraska home does not make you eligible for the FNP or PMHNP track.
