Arkansas residents and Gonzaga nursing: the doctoral path and the western map

Which Gonzaga programs an Arkansas address opens
Gonzaga ties NP admission to residence rather than to your license. A Little Rock nurse holding an Arkansas multistate license is still outside the list, because the catalog asks where you reside.

Gonzaga's disclosures carry one more Arkansas line. For the MSN nurse practitioner program, the state is listed as "Does not meet." If you picture moving west for an NP track and then returning to practice in Arkansas, bring that to Gonzaga early and read the state authorization guide.
How the DNP practicum works from Arkansas
Gonzaga describes Post-Master's DNP practice hours as indirect care done as part of your project, not hands-on patient care. Each practicum course needs your own individualized proposal and objectives, and an agency liaison at the host organization guides the work. MSN hours count toward the 1,000 total, and the DNP itself supplies at least 340.
Your employer can host, within limits the FAQ spells out: not in the area where you are employed, not on paid time, and not with your direct supervisor as liaison. Coursework is online, and the FAQ lists no campus visits, though one older catalog passage still describes on-campus immersions. The sequence, course by course, is on the DNP practicum courses page.
What the Arkansas State Board of Nursing says about programs from elsewhere
The research behind this guide found no ASBN rule or web guidance asking out-of-state programs for approval before clinical-only placements. Arkansas's prelicensure standards reach an outside institution only when it opens a new program in the state, and the APRN rules deal with programs through national accreditation. Board staff did not confirm that reading, so ask Gonzaga how it treats Arkansas.
Arkansas's Nurse Practice Act exempts students only in programs the ASBN approves, so plan on working under your own license. Compact membership came to Arkansas in January 2018, so RN practice there runs on an Arkansas license or any compact member's multistate license. Arkansas has not adopted the APRN Compact.
Reduced practice, and where a project could live
Arkansas sits in AANP's reduced practice tier. NPs there keep a regulated agreement with a doctor covering at least one element of their work, and some drugs are off limits to an NP unless a physician protocol covers them. Collaborative practice, prescribing workflow and access to care are all fair ground for a DNP project.
Statewide names include UAMS Health and Arkansas Children's; Little Rock is home base for Baptist Health and CHI St. Vincent; Mercy has hospitals serving Fort Smith and Northwest Arkansas; and the Arkansas Department of Health handles public health. The largest metro is Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway, followed by Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, Fort Smith and Jonesboro. Each decides on hosting for itself; none is named here as a Gonzaga partner.
Heading west for an NP track
Arkansas nurses aiming for Gonzaga's FNP or PMHNP have to set up residence out west first, in a state on Gonzaga's list. Practicums then happen in the state that licenses you, and where you settle decides how faculty site visits work: in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana, clinical faculty visit your site, while students in the other six add a Spokane day in each practicum course. Is Gonzaga's online PMHNP open to Arkansas residents?
No. Gonzaga accepts PMHNP and FNP students, Second MSN students included, only if they live in one of its ten western states. Its disclosures also mark Arkansas "Does not meet" for the MSN nurse practitioner program. From Arkansas, the Gonzaga option to explore is the Post-Master's DNP, which requires a nursing master's already.
Does Arkansas require Gonzaga to register before my DNP project starts?
No such rule turned up in the ASBN's rules or website. Its program standards address out-of-state schools opening a new program in Arkansas, not clinical-only placements. Board staff have not confirmed that finding, so ask Gonzaga what, if anything, it files first.
Can I base my Gonzaga DNP project at my own hospital in Little Rock?
Within limits, yes. The DNP FAQ permits project hours at your employer so long as they fall outside your own work area and your paid time, and the liaison checklist rules out your supervisor, relatives and friends. Another department of a big Little Rock system could work if it agrees to host and Gonzaga approves.
Does the Gonzaga DNP make me a nurse practitioner?
No. The Post-Master's DNP is a practice doctorate open to nurses with a master's in nursing, and its practicum hours are indirect project hours, so it does not lead to NP licensure. Arkansas nurses who want an NP credential through Gonzaga would look at the FNP or PMHNP tracks, which require residence in one of the ten western states.
