The short answer for Kentucky applicants
Gonzaga's NP master's students come only from ten western states, from Washington and Idaho down to Arizona, and they complete practicums in the state that licenses them. Kentucky shows "Meets" on Gonzaga's licensure table for the NP master's, but that is a licensure finding, not an admission list. The ten-state admission rule page covers the policy itself.

Doctoral study from Kentucky
The Post-Master's DNP runs online for nurses holding a master's in nursing, including NPs, CNSs, CRNAs, nurse-midwives and nurse leaders; a nursing education master's by itself falls short of eligibility. The hours that follow are indirect care rather than patient visits, logged with an agency liaison who has no personal or reporting tie to you, and they combine with your MSN hours toward 1,000. How KBN views outside programs, and how Kentucky NPs practice
KBN's position is that it approves only prelicensure programs based in Kentucky. Schools from other states need nothing from KBN, and that holds even when a school's sole Kentucky footprint is a clinical placement. On the graduate side, KBN's reach covers programs leading to licensure.
Two further points matter for online graduate study. Faculty overseeing MSN or DNP APRN students in Kentucky clinical settings, and Kentucky preceptors, hold unencumbered Kentucky RN and APRN licenses; a faculty member residing in another compact state adds only the Kentucky APRN license. KBN also cites KRS 314.101, a statute it reads as exempting out-of-state nurses doing a Kentucky clinical rotation, as long as the school is in SARA or licensed by the state's Council on Postsecondary Education. Gonzaga participates in NC-SARA, as its state authorization disclosures note.
Kentucky's multistate licenses date from its compact entry on January 19, 2018. Nurse practitioners meet tighter rules: in AANP's reduced-practice group, a qualifying Kentucky NP needs a pair of physician agreements to write both scheduled and unscheduled prescriptions, barring a Board exemption; newly licensed NPs also face employer-setting conditions in year one. The APRN Compact is not law in Kentucky.
Louisville, Lexington and the Cincinnati border
Kentucky's share of the Louisville/Jefferson County metro is 1,121,085 people, Lexington-Fayette's metro counts 535,174, Bowling Green's 197,180, and 474,868 Kentuckians live in the Cincinnati metro (Census, 2025). Norton Healthcare and UofL Health are Louisville names, UK HealthCare is the University of Kentucky's system, and Baptist Health and St. Elizabeth Healthcare round out the list, with the Kentucky Department for Public Health working statewide. Treat them as examples of project settings, not as sites with Gonzaga agreements.
If the NP track is the goal, the move comes first
Gonzaga reads residency at admission, so a Kentucky nurse aiming for the FNP or PMHNP would settle in the West before applying. A move into eastern Washington or Idaho keeps you near the Spokane immersions and inside the region where clinical faculty visit your practicum site in person. Destinations such as Arizona, Nevada or Utah mean a Spokane visit day in each practicum course. Only residents of Gonzaga's ten western states are admitted to the FNP and PMHNP tracks, and Kentucky is not one of them; the practicums also take place where the student is licensed. From Kentucky, the Gonzaga program to ask about is the Post-Master's DNP, which lists no residency condition.
Does Kentucky require Gonzaga to get KBN approval for a clinical in Kentucky?
KBN says schools from other states need no approval from it, even when a clinical placement is their only Kentucky activity. It does expect faculty and preceptors overseeing APRN students in Kentucky to hold Kentucky licenses. Gonzaga decides whether and where its DNP students complete hours in Kentucky, so confirm with the program.
What is the KRS 314.101 exemption KBN mentions?
KRS 314.101, as KBN reads it, lets nurses licensed elsewhere complete a Kentucky clinical rotation when their school belongs to SARA or holds Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education licensure.
