Kansas and Gonzaga: a doctoral route the disclosures name, and KSBN's rules for APRN study
Kansas is one of two states where Gonzaga's own disclosures point to the doctorate: for the nurse practitioner master's, Kansas is marked "Does not meet," with admittance limited to two programs, the Post-Master's DNP and the leadership MSN. Gonzaga has since stopped offering that leadership degree, which leaves the online DNP as the live Gonzaga route from Kansas. Confirm eligibility with Gonzaga before applying.

Kansas on Gonzaga's disclosure page
In the NP master's column of Gonzaga's licensure table, Kansas reads "Does not meet," with a note that only the MSN in Nursing Leadership in Healthcare and the Post-Master's DNP are open to Kansans, neither leading to licensure. The doctorate as a Kansas nurse's Gonzaga route
Gonzaga teaches the Post-Master's DNP online to master's-prepared nurses already practicing at an advanced level or leading teams. It does not lead to a new license, which fits the disclosure note. Your practicum hours go into a project, indirect care supervised by an agency liaison at a Kansas organization you put forward, and your master's hours count toward Gonzaga's 1,000.

How KSBN treats online programs and APRN clinicals
KSBN approves no online APRN program ahead of time. A Kansas resident can enroll out of state without the board signing off, and the program is judged only once a graduate seeks a Kansas APRN license; the last question below lists what the board checks.
Students in Kansas APRN clinicals work on an RN license valid in Kansas. Their preceptor, per KSBN, gets an orientation, signs an agreement and holds a Kansas APRN license matching the role being studied. Online instructors face no Kansas licensure demand, no clinical site visit is required, and a visiting instructor counts as a lay visitor. Kansas joined the compact in mid-2019 and sits in AANP's full practice group.
Kansas City to Manhattan: settings for a DNP project
Wichita's metro counts 663,809 residents, Topeka's 233,052 and Manhattan's 136,122, alongside the Kansas share of greater Kansas City. The University of Kansas Health System, Ascension Via Christi, Stormont Vail Health and Wesley Healthcare, an HCA Healthcare hospital in Wichita, are among the state's systems, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment covers public health. Each is an example of where a quality, policy or systems project could run; none is presented as a Gonzaga partner.
Moving west for an FNP or PMHNP track
For the NP credential itself, the order is move first, then apply, since the tracks consider residents of the ten western states only. A Kansas multistate license helps in the compact states among the ten but not in Alaska, California, Nevada or Oregon; the RN license for clinicals guide covers each. Where you land also decides whether faculty come to your clinic, as in the four northwestern states, or you travel to Spokane for a visit day. Why does Gonzaga list Kansas as "Does not meet"?
The label sits on Gonzaga's licensure table for the nurse practitioner master's, which records whether that program meets a state's licensure requirements. The page gives no reasoning for each state, but it does say Kansas residents may be admitted to the Post-Master's DNP. Can I earn a nurse practitioner credential from Gonzaga while living in Kansas?
Two things stand in the way: the FNP and PMHNP tracks are for western residents only, and Kansas is also marked "Does not meet" for the NP master's. A Kansas nurse after a Gonzaga NP credential must first make one of the ten states home. The Post-Master's DNP, named for Kansas admittance, leads to a doctorate rather than a new license.
Does KSBN require faculty site visits for online students?
Kansas requires no site visit. KSBN treats any faculty member who drops in on a Kansas clinical as a lay visitor, and online instructors need no Kansas license. Gonzaga's DNP relies on an agency liaison and scheduled contacts instead of NP-style visits, so ask the program how it oversees a Kansas project.
What does Kansas check when an out-of-state NP graduate applies for licensure?
It happens at the licensure application, after graduation. KSBN confirms national accreditation, a program of at least 45 credits, and three credits each in the advanced pharmacology, assessment and pathophysiology courses. Clinical hours in the role and specialty are counted too: students who entered before March 1, 2025 need 500, later entrants 750.
